Kargal is a town in the Shimoga district of Karnataka Kargal Town Panchayat was first a notified area and later constituted as Kargal Town Panchayat on 2001. The town have a population of 10,847 people. It is located on the banks of River Sharavathi and gained importance after the construction of Linganamakki Dam in the year 1954. The dam and Jog Falls is 5 km away from Kargal.
