Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the community has an area of 5.850 square miles (15.15 km); 5.789 square miles (14.99 km) of its area is land, and 0.061 square miles (0.16 km) is water. Elk Creek was, as late as 1955, the site of a church and cemetery, as well as a general store.

Morrison Heady (1829–1915), poet and author, was born in Elk Creek.
